Gateshead town centre plans progressed to prepare for submission
Final pre-application designs for the Trinity Square scheme in Gateshead town centre are coming together as architects 3DReid, who have been appointed to work up the more detailed elements of the proposals, make exciting developments to the proposals.
The architectural firm, who designed The Gate, the award-winning leisure development in neighbouring Newcastle and the iconic Air Traffic Control Tower at the international airport, is working on the final details of the town centre regeneration proposals following the extensive consultation undertaken with residents and representatives over the last twelve months. 3DReid is aiming to give a strong identity to the key buildings within the scheme, in particular those which will provide a strong silhouette on the skyline and on key corners, where sculptural designs will aim to draw visitors into the town centre.
Another key consideration is the proposed town square, which with a performance space, amphitheatre seating areas and local artwork could become a key focal point and gathering place.
Lastly, 3DReid is seeking to incorporate tactile and rich materials into some of the buildings at ground level to make them visually stimulating for residents and visitors alike. Many of these will be sourced locally, such as from Durham Quarry.
Tim Gray, Director at 3DReid says, “These exciting new elements will make the scheme one which Gateshead residents can be even prouder of. As Gateshead town centre is situated on the brow of a hill the town has a real opportunity to show off its new town centre and key features could certainly do this.
Residents were already in favour of the scheme, with 97% stating they were in favour of the plans at our first consultation, and we have made these latest design improvements to ensure that the town centre will be known for its design features as well as its new facilities, which is what residents have told us they want.”
Michael Kissman, spokesperson for Spenhill says, “We are pleased that 3DReid are on board for this final leg of the pre-application process. We all want for the best possible scheme to be developed. We have incorporated residents comments where possible and have worked further on the details which is what will really give the new town centre it’s wow factor.”
The Trinity Square development will include 40 new shops, a new Tesco, a town square, cafes, bars and restaurants, student accommodation, offices and a hotel. Please browse this website for more information.
