Considerate construction

We understand that the construction stage of any new development will bring with it a certain degree of noise and other effects.

Spenhill is dedicated to doing all it can to ensure that the impact on local residents is kept to a minimum and that the construction phase is as smooth as can be. During the demolition of the car park, the following measures will be introduced to manage and control noise and dust:

Considerate Constructors scheme
The demolition is operating under a Considerate Constructors programme. This programme ensures an experienced industry professional will monitor the development to assess performance against eight points: Considerate, Environment, Cleanliness, Good Neighbour, Respectful, Safe, Responsible and Accountable. The contractors will also comply with environmental health regulations.

Noise regulators
Noise from the specialist demolition crushing machines is minimal and the site hoardings will mask much of the noise.

Dust suppression measures
A fire-tender is on site to douse areas being demolished and keep dust to a minimum. Vehicles leaving the site are also being treated with water.

Working hours
The allowable working hours have been set by Gateshead Council’s Environment Department as Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm and Saturday 8am to 1pm. This is aimed at ensuring work is completed as quickly as possible while minimising any inconvenience for local residents.

Hoarding
Solid hoarding has been erected to keep the site safe, secure and screen residents from a certain degree of noise.

Pollution
There will be no pollution from the site and all demolition materials will be recycled at a local plant for reuse.
