The current town centre is underperforming and the Trinity Square site in particular needs to be completely redeveloped. Following consultation already undertaken by Gateshead Council as to what local people wanted to see in their town centre, we plan to build on the town centre’s strengths: its good central location and transport links, easy access to new leisure and cultural developments and its historic listed buildings – and tap into the enormous potential to improve.
The revamp of the town centre will increase Gateshead’s standing as the regeneration capital of the North East, adding to its major regeneration developments at Gateshead Quays and its surroundings including Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art, The Sage Gateshead, Gateshead International Stadium and the Metrocentre.
Meeting the Council’s Expectations Within the revised proposals, Spenhill will be aiming to respond to the Council’s requirements for the site as regards the issues of land use, infrastructure, public spaces and design.
