Trinity Square Gateshead

The current town centre is underperforming and the Trinity Square site in particular needs to be completely redeveloped. Following consultation already undertaken by Gateshead Council as to what local people wanted to see in their town centre, we plan to build on the town centres strengths: – its good central location and transport links, easy access to new leisure and cultural developments and its historic listed buildings – and tap into the enormous potential to improve.

Meeting the Councils Expectations
Within the revised proposals, Spenhill will be aiming to respond to the council’s requirements for the site as regards the issues of land use, infrastructure, public spaces and design.

Specifically, the Council has identified the following areas to focus on throughout the town centre:
  • Improving the way it looks by introducing good quality buildings and public spaces;

  • Resolving problems of vacant and old properties;

  • More good quality shops and offices;

  • Improving the limited range of facilities;

  • Reducing high volumes of traffic through the centre; and

  • Making it more accessible for pedestrians and cyclists
